Europe for Peace
Europe for Peace was a joint project of Associació per la Defensa de l'Objecció de Consciència del País Valencià (Spain), Deutsche Friedensgesellschaft - Vereinigte Kriegsdienstgegner/innen (Germany), Ofog - för en värld fri från kärnvapen och militarism (Sweden), Stichting Transnational Institute (Netherlands), Vredesactie (Belgium), and War Resisters' International (Britain), which ran from 1 August 2009 until 31 July 2011.
The project was based on the understanding that many peace organisations work on international issues, and that many decisions related to peace and international security are made at an international level - for example at the European Union or NATO - but that peace organisations usually work more within the political framework of their own country. The result is a lack of awareness of the European context leading to incoherent strategies to raise public awareness.
The objectives of the project were to develop joint and coherent strategies for working on the issues of peace and international security through:
- the development of awareness about the European context and the different local contexts in which peace organisations work;
- the development of tools and methods for European strategies of awareness raising, of exchanging information and the development of such strategies.
The project was supported by the European Commission though the Lifelong Learning Programme.
